Tester, Schweitzer stump for farmers in Great Falls
Governor Brian Schweitzer and Big Sandy farmer Jon Tester were in Great Falls today, encouraging farmers to get out and vote. Tester, who is currently President of the Montana State Senate, is running to unseat incumbent U.S. Senator Conrad Burns.
“Ultimately in the end, you have to have somebody back in Washington that knows agriculture, that has had their hands in the dirt and knows what family farms go through on a yearly basis,” Tester said, according to the Great Falls Tribune.
“Agriculture is Montana’s No. 1 industry and we’ve got to make sure that the family farms and ranches in this state are allowed to flourish, and we’ve got to have a government that supports them in that.”
Schweitzer predicted a win for Tester and rallied Farmers Union members to help Democrats take the Senate seat away from Burns.
“I need you to stand up and say we’ve got to take it back,” Schweitzer said. “I need you to stand up and fight for us.”
