Glacier Park to add biodiesel buses

Following Yellostone National Park's lead, Glacier National Park, which is feeling the effects of global warming pollution first-hand, is moving to biodiesel in its bus fleet.

Today the Lee News Service is reporting that Glacier National Park will be following Yellowstone's lead and adding biodiesel buses to their fleet. The quesiton now arises: If its good for Glacier and Yellowstone, two of the coldest places in the winter, why are decision-makers in Billings and Helena holding back?

KALISPELL - Thirty buses and vans are being added to the Glacier National Park transportation system, as part of an effort to reduce traffic, and will be used elsewhere during the park's quiet seasons.

Officials Friday announced that eight 23-passenger buses and 22 12-passenger vans will travel Glacier's Going-to-the-Sun Road during summer and will be used by transit services, including Flathead County's Eagle Transit, at other times of the year. [...]

The vans arrived at Glacier in January. The buses, capable of running on biodiesel, are being manufactured by Optima Bus of Wichita, Kan. Delivery late this spring is planned.
